Voluntary Floodproofing Cost-Share Assistance
MRBC’s Retrofitting Cost-Share Assistance Program provides assistance to owners of single-family residential structures, manufactured homes, multi-family apartment buildings and non-residential structures. MRBC provides cost-share assistance on a 75% (MRBC) - 25% (owner) basis to homeowners for the purpose of retrofitting their structure to reduce the overall damage potential resulting from flooding. The cost-share assistance will be limited to the following maximums for structures located within the 1% event (100-year) and 0.20% event (500-year) Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs):

Limited funding prevented any activity in this program for 2007-2008.
Voluntary Buyout Cost-Share Assistance
Voluntary Agricultural Land-Use Conversion
This program is intended to reduce the agricultural flood damage potential in the Basin by using prevention methods such as:
- Filterstrips
- Grass buffer Zones
- French Drains
- Wetland Restorations
- Woodland / Reforestation
MRBC Land Use Information
MRBC performed a comprehensive inventory of the various types of land use throughout the Maumee River Basin. Aerial photography flown in 1996 was used in Adams, DeKalb, Noble, and Steuben Counties. Allen County's Land Use data is from 1986 aerial photography.
The inventory was broken down into six (6) major categories: Cropland, Woodland, Non-Agricultural, Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Residential, and Ponds. This inventory will serve as the Baseline Data for the purpose of monitoring future Land Use changes throughout the Maumee River Basin.

Stream Obstruction Removal
Annual Stream Maintenance, including removal of stream obstructions such as logjams, helps prevent existing flood damages from increasing in the future.
MRBC Flood Hazard Identification Program
Benefits of detailed Flood Insurance Studies
Flood Hazard Identification has proven to be the most effective approach to flood damage reduction by preventing structures from being located within flood prone areas. Flood Insurance Studies are the mechanism by which these Hazard Areas are Identified.
